Author: s.flo

Just like smoking and drinking can effect your fertility and chances of getting pregnant so can some elements of your diet. Some of the foods and supplements you should be avoiding whilst trying to conceive are:

Caffeine - if a woman's intake of caffeine is too high then this can actually reduce their infertility and make it more harder to conceive. So if you are having difficulty conceiving and drinking 4+ cups of coffee a day you are actually reducing your chances of getting pregnant by around 26%

Soft cheese, raw undercooked meats and eggs can all have a bad affect when trying to conceive and especially when pregnant so at all cost it is best to stay clear of these. This is because of the risk of contamination with coliform bacteria and salmonella.

Over the counter prescription drugs, before taking these you should consult with your GP as quite a few have been found to affect fertility and cause harm to the unborn child when pregnant. So be careful about what you are taking.

Fish that is high in mercury, the intake of too much mercury can make a person ill in itself but in the case of trying to conceive and pregnancy it is especially unhealthy as it has been linked with slow development of the baby and brain damage. Fish that should be avoided as they have high levels of mercury are swordfish, shark, tilefish and king mackerel.
