Breast Milk & Leaking Boobs

Author: Breastmates

Leaking Boobs! Its not the ideal conversation topic for new mothers, but it is something that happens with about 99% of new mothers. When you are a breastfeeding mom, between feeding times your breasts can just sometimes leak out milk. Sometimes if you are walking past a baby, or if you think about your baby, you will also feel the milk let down and have a leak.

The milk let down sensation is a tingling feeling. And the milk leaks will drip out from your nipple.

It is extremely common for breasts to leak regularly when your baby is new born, while your breast milk and breast feeding routine are getting established. Some women also leak more over night.

Then as your baby gets older, and your breast milk production settles down, you may find that your breasts don't leak as much.

The amount of time that breast leak does vary between mothers. Some it may be for 6 weeks, or for others it will be around 6 months, 9 months, or for the entire breastfeeding period.

To absorb leaks you need breast pads. There are several options available, such as reusable breast pads, disposable breast pads, breast shells. The one that you choose to you, will depend on your budget (throwing away disposable breast pads will cost you $$), and it will also depend if you can be bothered with the washing and reusing. The other option now available is for Lily Pads - which are a breathable silicone breast shell which push your nipple down continuously - and prevent leaks from even occurring.

Personally, my breasts leaked a LOT when my son was a newborn. I was changing them regularly to ensure I didnt get any leakage through my clothing. But now that he is reaching 6 months old, this week particularly, I am noticing that my boobs are not leaking as much.

Getting Pregnant While Breastfeeding

Author: Abhishek Agarwal

Most of the people are aware of the gap they want between their children. Some people prefer to have some distance and space in developmental stages while others want to complete their family quickly and do not have that much time. Although there is no wrong or right way of planning a family but you should consider some facts about your pregnancy if you are on breastfeeding.

Women should be aware of all the challenges that she would have to face to deal with pregnancy when she is lactating. You would be happy to know that once your baby is of six months old you can easily get pregnant while breastfeeding. When the baby is very young most of the breastfeeding moms do not have periods or ovulate for quite some time. It is improbable to get pregnant while breastfeeding while all these functions are inactive.

Different breastfeeding woman have different consequences, in some cases woman resume their periods withing three months of pregnancy while others wait for an year.

It would be wise to work on some numbers to understand the difficulties that woman would have to face if she gets pregnant while breastfeeding. High level of hormone prolactin is produced when a woman does breastfeeding. Suppressed ovulation is the resulf of this hormone prolactin which reduces the chances of pregnancy to 2 or 3 percent. But for a baby of an appropriate age, several other solid foods can be introduced in his or her diet to supplement less breastfeed. This way, you would produce less level of prolactin in your body resulting in decreasing the problems of pregnancy. The best way is to stretch the time gap between feedings both during day and night. This would help you to overcome this problem but timing is the key to this method.

Weight Loss While Breastfeeding

Author: Paddy Ryan

Don't think that you will be unable to lose weight while breastfeeding. In fact, breastfeeding makes it easier to lose the excess weight because your body uses the stored energy in fat to make milk.

The amazing thing about breastfeeding is it contains so many nutrients your baby needs and you will burn over 600 calories a day to just to make the milk! So keep going.

A really important thing to remember is to have a balanced diet! It is really important to not eat or drink things that will upset your milk supply, but you also don't want to overload on foods high in saturated fat - like cheese. If you are eating the right portions from all food groups and exercising while breastfeeding you will certainly lose weight.

You can breastfeed and lose weight at the same time if you do it slowly. Don't expect any miracle cures; plan on it taking at least 10 months to a year to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight.

Losing weight gradually through healthy, low-fat eating and moderate exercise is important. Losing weight too quickly releases toxins (PCBs and pesticides) that are stored in your body fat into the bloodstream, which, in turn, increases the amount in the milk supply.

Doctors, health visitors, and midwives will probably all remind you to eat well and keep up your breast milk production in your first few weeks after giving birth, but no one checks up on you when you're several months on post delivery, and perhaps even back at work. Yet, these are the moments when, you're most likely to slacken your vigilance and will need a good quality diet.

Try to be patient, the changes will happen.

The best way to lose weight in the long term and most importantly to keep the weight off is to enjoy the diet itself. Now I know that sounds odd. How can you enjoy dieting? Well how about a revolutionary diet system and eating program that will make you lose weight without restricting your diet to low fat or low carb' foods. When my wife gave birth to our first child I was already on this diet, and recovering from major surgery. It was because of the success she saw that I was having that she decided to join me after the arrival of our baby. The "Diet Generator" that comes with this system will allow you to enter your own choice of your favorite foods from which it can create 40,000 different diet plans. You will never be bored with your diet again. You choose the foods that you want to eat, just plug in the system and the diet will be created for you. You can create as many completely unique diets as you want.
You will never have a day of boring dull diet food again.
You will be able to stay with your diet eating the foods that you like and so you will be successful at losing weight and more importantly keeping that weight off in the long term!
This is how I beat being unable to Lose Weight
This is the secret to long term weight loss

A Crash Course on Breastfeeding

Author: Gem Villamin

Breastfeeding is widely accepted as the best food for infants and by far the most natural. Breast milk is known to contain the essential nutrients as well as the antibodies that can perfectly match the nutritional requirements of a growing infant.

Its composition can effectively help in reducing the incidents of diarrhea, digestive upsets and constipation. So if you are planning on breastfeeding your child, here are some valuable pointers you need to know.

Before the baby is born

Most women do not know that the preparation for breastfeeding actually starts even before the baby is born. While we all know that breast milk is natural, this does not necessarily mean it’s easy.

An important part of preparation for breastfeeding comes even before your baby is born. Breastfeeding is, of course, completely natural – this does not, however, mean that it is necessarily easy. Almost all women can breastfeed, as long as they get good advice and good support. It would be good to enroll on antenatal classes for proper guidance in breastfeeding. Good quality breast shells are also necessary investment to help air the nipples.

Starting out

In most cases, breast milk may not come in until a few days after delivery, so mothers need not worry if the baby doesn’t seem to be taking much in. Please bear in mind that it is perfectly normal for babies to lose about 10% of their body weight during the first few days. Some mothers experience anxiety over the fact that they are not producing enough milk. However, on the first few days, babies are actually drinking colostrum that contain high calorie content and vital antibodies to ward off infections.

Perfect Positioning

First time mothers should also know that while their babies instinctively know how to suck, they do not know how to latch on properly – which is a skill that should be taught. The proper way to do this is to gently stroke the nipple down from her nose until the baby’s mouth opens and sucks on the nipple, head pointing upwards towards the roof. This may require several tries to get it right.

Pillows can also be a good support when feeding the baby. Hold your baby with one hand at the back of the neck or head to adjust him/her to the right angle. As soon as the baby has successfully latched on, start counting from one to ten. If it becomes painful, then there may be something wrong, since breastfeeding should not be uncomfortable.

Breastfeeding Success

Author: shrimpsey

Posted by Michelle on Saturday, May 30, 2009

I always knew I wanted to breastfeed. When I had my first baby, we got off to a great start. Other then a little nipple soreness the first few days, everything went great, until I supplemented the occasional bottle of formula. I never realised how much this would affect my supply. Soon enough, the bottles became more frequent, and the nursing session short, and more frustrating as he would fuss at the breast. They don't have to work to get it out of a bottle, but they do with the boob. Unfortunately, my lack of education on breastfeeding caused our breastfeeding relationship to end around 6 months.

When I got pregnant with my daughter, I was determined not to make the same mistake. I started reading everything I could on breastfeeding, keeping your supply, everything I could find. At my 34 week OB appointment, we found out our daughter was breech. This meant the possibility of a c-section. Sure enough she stayed breech, and I had a c-section. I was able to offer her the breast right away in the recovery room, but she wasn't interested. I continued to offer her the breast every couple hours, with no success. She would latch perfect, but she wouldn't suck once she was latched. After 24 hours past without a good nursing session, the hospital offered to supplement. I politely declined, and made it very clear that she would be breast only. For my next few attempts at feeding her, I would express some colostrums by hand, so she could get a taste, and put her on. I got a few sucks out of her, but then she would just get mad and start to scream. I did not allow myself to get frustrated, and because of educating myself about the possibility of this issue before hand, was able to remain calm and patient. By the end of the second day, I knew she must be hungry, so I used the hospital pump, and pumped after offering the breast. I fed her the pumped breast milk and she gobbled it right up. We did this routine for 3 feedings. Finally, on the morning of the third day, she latched, and nursed for 20 minutes on each side!!!! I was sooooo happy. We figured it out together. Her weight did drop to the 10%, but after she started nursing well, it rapidly gained. Ever since she latched that morning, she has been hooked. We are now at 10 months, still going strong and loving every minute of it.
